The Hawkins Kids Go Sledding

Picture
There’s lots of snow, so it’s a great day ca. 1910 for Bill, George and Mary Hawkins to take their tandem sled down a few hills in their own backyard.  The Hawkins family lived on Burnhamthorpe Road, just east of where Burnhamthorpe Park Blvd. branches off today.  The house backed onto the Mimico Creek valley, and in this photo the creek runs its course between a double row of fencing. Soon much of the land you see in this view will be changing from farm land to golf fairways as Islington Golf Course will be opening there in 1924.  (Courtesy: Montgomery’s Inn)
