Joy Cohnstaedt - 2019 Recipient of the Jean Hibbert Memorial Award
At the 2019 Annual General Meeting, EHS presented Joy Cohnstaedt with the 2020 Jean Hibbert Memorial Award.
Joy is a board member of Heritage York and she has been active with other members in mounting their displays about taverns/temperance, Dundas Street and Geraldine Moodie to name a few. She also instigated a vignette about Moody for the History on the Humber in 2017.
As a member of Baby Point Heritage Foundation, she was an advocate to designate the Con Smythe home at 68 Baby Point Rd as a heritage property.
Also with this Foundation, Joy and other members applied to the City to have the Baby Point neighbourhood established as a Heritage Conservation District, which is now in the planning stages.
In addition to this, In 2006 Joy arranged for a large collection of WWII family papers and books to be repatriated to Germany, showing a strong sensitivity to heritage artifacts belonging in their place of origin.
Although the Jean Hibbert award is only presented to individuals, Joy has asked that we acknowledge that she is accepting the award on behalf of Heritage York and the Baby Point Heritage Foundation because her contributions were only possible due to the team support of these organizations.
